We believe in the transformative power of service dogs. Our non-profit organization, a 501(c)(3), was established to help individuals who could benefit from the assistance of a Service Dog. Our mission is to provide highly trained dogs, free of charge, along with guidance and education to the recipient in how to utilize and interact with their service dog. Additionally, we offer free educational programs to the general public to raise awareness of the importance and responsibilities associated with Service Dogs.
SCDOA was founded by a group of dedicated professionals within the canine industry, all of whom share a passion for supporting those in need of a well-trained service dog. Although there are other organizations that provide similar services, the demand for these special canine companions is growing rapidly, and the wait time for qualified individuals to receive a properly trained service dog can be up to six years.
Training a service dog requires an enormous investment of time and resources, and even then, many dogs are not capable of ultimately fulfilling the role due to health or personality issues. Service dogs require great strength of mind and body to succeed, and it is important to note that they should never be considered pets. Service dogs are highly specialized animals capable of giving a handicapped person independence they would not have realized otherwise. Through a deep bond and intense training, service dogs learn to interpret every nuance of their partner, building confidence and enabling individuals to do things they never would have dreamed of before.
At Service Companion Dogs of America, we are committed to providing all necessary training required for both the service dog and the recipient to ensure a healthy and happy team that will enhance the lives of all those touched by these wonderful relationships. We take pride in our balanced and detailed training schedules, and our attention to the health and welfare of the special dogs in our program. We believe that our work not only benefits the individuals and families we serve, but also contributes to the betterment of society as a whole.
